I saw these most unusual kind of flowers while trekking up the mountain of Nevado de Toluca. Even though it was overcast and not enough sunlight was falling on the ground, these flowers were shining distinctively all over the place. They had leaves like cactus and a sizeable core with shades of purple.

The ones which bloomed were looking as in the picture, while others who had lived their lives were dry and their cores were split open right in the middle. Strange things nature has in store.

P.S There is one thing which I have decided to change from this post onwards. If you can tell what it is, please leave a comment :)

I saw this unusual looking flower in a town called Valle de Bravo. We stopped at the place for some snacks and parked the car in a nearby parking when I noticed these flowers growing right in the center of the parking area. My friend told me that they are called “Birds of Paradise” and indeed they gave the appearance of small birds.

Their unusual shape and vivid color combination gave them a type of beauty which is something very different from what one expects from flowers in general.

Things start looking pretty different and you start paying attention to details once you get this close to your subjects. A flower which would otherwise look elegant in its “entirety” also becomes a “maze” of beauty when seen this close.

I have clicked many photos of different types of roses; some from a distance and some macros. But this time I decided to get really up and close. The focal length of my lens didn’t allow me to get the real crispness I would have wished but still, I got pretty close to what I expected.

It was raining all night yesterday. I got up and opened my window to get some fresh air. The first thing I saw out of the window were these crimson colored flowers drenched by the overnight rain and the tiny droplets hanging to their edges. My eyes weren’t even completely open but I knew that if I don’t shoot this now the water will be gone as soon as the sun comes up. So I reached for my camera and took some shots.

My window certainly gives a nice colorful view :)

I love taking closeup shots of flowers, specially the ones which do not have much complexity in their texture and design. The one you can see in the picture falls under my favorite category of “clickable” flowers. I really like going right up & close to them and shooting them in entirety, with the flower occupying the whole frame. I have posted a couple more of such shots previously on this blog. I hope the regular visitors remember that :)

If you see the full image, you can actually see the fine grains on the those black things at the center, which I suppose is the pollen of the flower. I enjoy observing such minute details in pictures.

BTW, anyone knows which flower it is? Lilly?

This flower resembled a “multi-shoot” gun barrel of a military warship when I first saw it. Numerous empty barrels in concentric circles, ready to spit fire. Actually it is an empty dried shell of a flower which was baked by the heat of the sun. But it certainly doesn’t look any less attractive after its death too. Beauty they say, is in the eyes of the beholder & certainly in the lens of my camera :)

We were roaming around the dry brown grounds adjacent to the pyramid of Cholula to see the different archaeological sites. The ground was parched and dry with little or no signs of greenery. But among all that “lifelessness” I saw a couple of purple patches from a distance. As I went near I could see these small purple flowers blooming in between of the gloom.

Its amazing how nature exhibits such contrasting forms of life in a single ecological subsystem.

I had to go down to the ground’s level to get this shot. Click here to see me taking the photo. This was clicked by a friend.

A bunch of yellow flowers, hanging on a thin branch & making it swing under their weight. In fact, the whole plant was laden with these small yellow bouquets. If you look from a distance, you could see a magnificent view of a yellow shrub glowing in the glory of its beautiful flowers.

I took this photo at a beach resort in Mahabalipuram, near Chennai.

I was walking past this flower shop which had hordes of different flowers kept in huge buckets just outside it’s entrance. Though there were around 30 different types of flowers, all unique in their own way, these huge sunflowers were the ones which caught my attention at the first sight. Their bright color contrast and obviously the enormous size compared to other flowers kept around, definitely makes them stand out in the crowd.
