The results of MRI scans of Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels have come. The investigation has revealed that, in the game against Portugal in Salvador, Boateng had a bad fall during which he suffered injury on his right hand’s thumb. The Munich defender Boateng has to wear a splint for six weeks, with which he can play with the accordance of the referee.

Hummels has suffered a bruise in his right thigh with bleeding into the muscles. When the Dortmund central defender can start training fully again and whether he will be able to play in the second group match against Ghana in Fortaleza, depends on the further course of healing.

Germany coach Joachim Loew said after the match that he did not think Hummels’s injury was as serious as it might have looked – that it was a bruise and not a muscle tear.
